Personality
Due to his mother's constant get up and go enthusiasm, Coreion is always moving or trying to learn something. It can be anything from trying to count the stars to running as fast as he can for as long as he can. The boy's mind never stops roaming and wandering, though he shows a good learning capability. It doesn't take him very long to pick things up and he is always eager to know more. One of his favorite things to do is listen to stories, though he's not so great at making them up himself. He's friendly, adventurous, affectionate and generally happy. His mother taught him to mind his manners and to always go with what he believes in. He's still too young to fully grasp the concept, but he certainly remembers how adamant his mother was on doing the right thing. He's very trustworthy and is a bad liar, usually preferring to tell the truth anyway. Because of his age and constantly being around his mother, he feels very upset when he's left alone for long and once he finds someone, he will try to stay around them even if they're mean. That being said, he has yet to experience any true cruel acts from another horse in his life, so he is rather trusting of them and gives most horses the benefit of the doubt. Overall he wants to do good and make the world into a friendlier, happier place, because that's what his mom always wanted (other than exploring).
History
The colt's life hasn't been all that much of a walk in the park. His mother had been part of a roaming herd, though one guarded rather strongly by three brothers. The rules were pretty simple: don't stray too far, listen to your leaders and do not go off with any stranger stallions. Of course the brothers were a little strong handed with their mares, being the darks they were. Coreion's mother was more of a free spirit and didn't care much for the rules, often finding it fun to rebel against them and go off to do her own thing. She was adventurous and brave, often wandering off when the others were distracted or that split moment when the brother on watch fell asleep. His mother would explore any place she could find, often meeting new horses. This eventually lead her to meet his father, a dashing and just as adventurous stallion. The two stayed out until the early dawn hours, where they both had to part ways and continue on with their own journeys. He had places to explore and she had a herd to return to. They had their fun and left each other on a good note, figuring that they would eventually see each other again along the line.
Their rendezvous did not go unnoticed, since the mare did obviously come back reeking of the stallion and in an odd mood. The brothers caught on quickly and punished her accordingly, isolating her and keeping a constant watch of everything she did. Over time, her love for exploring died down and she behaved as she was ordered to. The herd continued moving on and come late spring, Coreion was born. The birth itself was as easy as a first foal could be, much to his mother's relief. He was up and stumbling around right away and wasted no time getting used to the new world. With her baby born (who took eerily after his father), the mare began to show a little life again. She did continue to stay close to the herd, but would hang around the outskirts for a little while each night to point out different things to her son. She'd name the night sky, different animal sounds and scents, she even told him stories about strange monsters and far away lands! He was enraptured by her stories and knowledge, even though he couldn't understand most of it. Her soft voice would soothe him and lull him to sleep, the strange fantasies of her stories lingering in his head.
As the seasons grew colder, albeit not too freezing, the colt continued growing. He was also learning his mother's stories and he picked up whatever knowledge he could remember from her. His curiosity was growing though and soon his mother found that she was constantly being bombarded with questions. With her revived spirit, she decided to take him out one night. Her watch had grown very lax over the last year, so she was able to slip away with her son. The two traveled back along their woodsy route, just a little ways off from the herd since the mare did know it wouldn't be wise to stray too far. She brought him to a ravine they had passed by, intent on showing him the shallow river that cut through it. She picked a very careful route down, making sure to go slowly for Coreion to be able to follow easily. Once at the bottom, the two headed to a shallow area of the water and splashed around. He had never gotten to play around quite so much before, since the brothers usually scolded him for "prancing around like a fucking girl". Instead his mother let him play and splash while she even joined in! However, their fun did not last all that long. After a short time, his mother tensed up and told him to get out of the water and to her other side. He obeyed quickly, not liking the tone of her voice. Then he saw it, a large tan cat that must have been at least half his size was perched on the rocky side of the ravine. It's body was tense and low to the ground, it's eyes focused on him. His mother moved to get between the two, turning a little to the side, as if ready to have to kick out at any given second. Slowly she tried to move him up the cliff while keeping her eyes trained on the mountain lion. The big cat began to slink along behind them, clearly intent on making a meal out of one of them. Distracted by the large cat following them up the path, Coreion stumbled and tripped himself up over the rocks, just to his mother's agitation. She told him to watch where he was going and to keep on the path, but he found it almost impossible to turn away. He tripped again, this time causing himself to fall. The cat took this chance and made his move to leap onto a ledge close to them. The mare immediately lashed out, though her hooves hit nothing. The lion again took advantage of the moment and when her hooves were beginning to fall, it pounced onto her hip with claws fully bared. It latched onto her and she began bucking and rearing in a wild attempt to rid herself of the predator. Coreion managed to get himself back on his hooves during the struggle, though he felt helpless as he was too frightened to try and help his mother. The rest of the struggle remains mostly a blur in his mind, a mix between his mother's terrified voice just shouting at him to run and calling for help while streaks of red run through his memories. He remembers his mother and the lion ending up further down the path while he was at the top (he doesn't recall getting there though) and the two going over in a heap. There was a guttural sound and only a few weak kicks from his mother to signal the end of it. He was young, but he recognized the movements from a previous lion attack, where the foal had not been so lucky. For an indeterminable amount of time he stared down at the two, not really seeing what had happened even though it was clear. He didn't want to accept it, his mother was everything in his life and to even try to imagine going on without her was gave him a splitting headache. Finally it hit him and the colt turned and ran back into the forest. He couldn't remember what way he had come from and was in no state to call out, which only lead him further away from his herd and from where he left his mother. Still, he continued on for as long as he could, knowing he had to find other horses fast. It was scary to be alone and his nerves were very frayed, so he continued his search into a land his herd had not traveled too well before.
